Tuesday 23rd June

The UK’s energy system is increasing in complexity, driven by rising electricity demand, the decentralisation of generation and the variability of renewables. A lack of system-wide thinking on electrification, particularly from the built environment perspective, is a challenge we can no longer afford if we are to meet the UK’s energy security goals, protect against fuel poverty and strengthen system resilience. A more coordinated approach is therefore critical to improving energy sovereignty, reducing reliance on imports and minimising exposure to volatile energy prices.

Insights into UK Resilience: Energy Infrastructure and Distribution Systems breakfast event in collaboration with Hoare Lea will explore the first insights from a forthcoming UKGBC report which examines the key barriers and enablers increasing resilience in the UK’s energy infrastructure and distribution systems and accelerating the move to electrification.

Globally, we face a housing shortage, with an estimated need for over 300,000 more homes annually in the UK alone, affecting the quality of life and a sense of belonging. Simultaneously, sustainability and energy-efficiency have become critical considerations for new homes, civic amenities and infrastructure.

Holcim and the Zaha Hadid Foundation are bringing together an expert panel exploring how the built environment industry can collaborate to address these challenges, using innovative approaches to built sustainable and inclusive cities.

  • Moderator: Isabel Allen, Architecture Today
  • Edelio Bermejo, Holcim
  • Richard Ellis, Peabody
  • Tracy Meller, RSHP
  • Simon McWhirter, UKGBC
  • Elisa Sartori, Webb Yates Engineers.

Wednesday 24th June

One year on from the launch of the UK Climate Resilience Roadmap, this event will showcase how we are supporting industry to translate climate resilience ambition into action. This webinar will focus on the tools and guidance available to take action now and will include the launch of the new guidance, Adaptation for climate resilience: non-domestic buildings, which highlights key adaptation measures for a non-domestic building in two different hazard scenarios, responding to stage three of the four-stage model from the Roadmap.

A panel of expert speakers will share insights from their involvement in our climate resilience and adaptation work, their experience of embedding the principles and key challenges and opportunities to be addressed to facilitate further progress.
