This event will launch an update to the UKGBC Net Zero Carbon Framework Definition, now the Whole Life Carbon Framework. The UKGBC Framework Definition, first issued in 2019, was developed to provide clarity on the definition of net zero carbon buildings. Industry bodies have since come together to develop the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard, which sets out a clear, science-led methodology for defining and demonstrating net zero carbon alignment in the UK built environment. This update to the Framework Definition ensures that it remains fit for purpose and can be used alongside the UK NZCBS.

You will leave with an understanding of the principles and actions in the new Whole Life Carbon Framework, with expert insights on how it can be applied a s a practical tool for minimising whole life carbon and managing residual emissions.

Why Attend

Discover

the practical actions to take and principles to follow to minimise whole life carbon in the built environment.

Hear from an expert panel

on the application of the Whole Life Carbon Framework.

Equip your team

to turn ambition into action.

Who Should Attend?

This Framework is relevant to any organisation and individual who can influence the carbon emissions and/or manage the residual emissions from a building at any time in its life cycle. This includes:

Insights on Optimising and Retrofitting Non-Domestic Buildings Launch (online) /events/insights-on-optimising-and-retrofitting-non-mdomestic-buildings-launch/ Tue, 24 Feb 2026 12:31:29 +0000 /?post_type=event&p=69385 Join us for the launch of UKGBC's latest reports: 'Building the Case for Net Zero: Retrofitting Retail & Logistics Buildings' and 'Delivering Net Zero: Practical Actions for Optimising Energy Use', delivering practical guidance for non-domestic retrofit across the UK.

The post Insights on Optimising and Retrofitting Non-Domestic Buildings Launch (online) appeared first on UKGBC.

]]>
23% of the UK’s built environment carbon emissions come from the energy used to operate non-domestic buildings.

Across the full building lifecycle, from design and construction through operation, maintenance and eventual refurbishment, a strategic combination of light and deep retrofit measures and ongoing energy optimisation will be essential to reduce operational demand, cut embodied and whole-life carbon, and ensure existing assets remain resilient, efficient and fit for a net-zero future.

We are excited to launch our latest reports focused on non-domestic retrofit, empowering the sector to drive rapid reductions in energy use and whole life carbon.

Building the Case for Net Zero: Retrofitting Retail & Logistics Buildings Report

This report is next in the series of non-domestic retrofit guidance supporting the retail and logistics sectors to take action to combat their energy and carbon impacts. It does this by highlighting commonly used retrofit measures for these buildings and examining the possible impacts on energy performance and their estimated cost of implementation. It also identifies other key considerations for deciding what and when to undertake retrofit measures.

Delivering Net Zero: Practical Actions for Optimising Energy Use

This report supports greater reductions in the energy use and associated carbon emissions of operational non-domestic buildings, outlining key steps for success and lists practical actions, which will be applicable to many buildings.

During the session, we’ll share key steps for success, outline practical action for anyone managing or operating non-domestic buildings, and discuss how collaboration with stakeholders can help take meaningful action towards optimising building performance across the UK’s built environment.

Why Attend?

Discover

key considerations for deciding what and when to undertake retrofit measures and strategies.

Learn

the possible impacts on energy performance and the estimated cost of implementation for commonly used retrofit measures.

Equip your team

to integrate retrofit interventions into asset management plans.

Who Should Attend?

We invite built environment professionals involved in energy and carbon reduction for commercial buildings, estates or property portfolios. In particular, we welcome those managing or operating retail and logistics buildings, including owners, occupiers, property and facility managers, designers and consultants.

This webinar will launch a new report exploring the barriers & enablers to scaling sustainable solutions in the built environment. While many impactful solutions already exist (from products, materials and construction systems to digital platforms and business models), too many remain stuck at pilot stage. This report examines the systemic challenges holding back wider adoption, from procurement and finance to risk, evidence and organisational readiness. It presents practical enablers to help move solutions into mainstream adoption.

During the session, we’ll share key findings from the research, outline priority actions for providers, adopters and networks, and discuss how coordinated efforts can accelerate innovation at scale. The webinar will also offer an opportunity to reflect on what these insights mean for your organisation and how you can contribute to unlocking sector-wide impact.

Why Attend?

Discover

the barriers and enablers to scaling sustainable solutions in the UK built environment, hearing from speakers who have taken action to scale innovation in their organisations.

Learn

from speakers who have already taken action to support the scaling of sustainability solutions.

Get involved

in the next phase of ‘Scaling Sustainable Solutions for the Built Environment’ initiative, working with UKGBC to action the enablers presented in the report.

Who Should Attend?

Built environment professionals looking to understand how they can help to scale innovation, whether a solution provider, solution adopter, industry body or other interested party.

You do not need to be an expert in this area to attend.
