Partnership LengthFY 2025/26 (running until 31st March)
Cost£5,000

Both developing new innovations, and more widely implementing existing solutions, are critical to achieving global sustainability goals and reaching net zero. However, fragmentation across our industry is contributing to practical, viable innovative solutions not scaling up across the industry at the pace required.

However, this is the “Decade of Action” and we need to ensure more sustainable solutions reach widespread deployment, and less start-ups fall victim to the so-called “Valley of Death” between initial R&D and full scale commercialisation.

Ģֱ in a unique position to help overcome scaling challenges specific to the built environment context. This is recognised in a Government , stating that “The Ģֱ should convene industry and relevant members of the Catapult network to encourage greater testing and piloting of innovative solutions in the built environment, including advanced manufacturing solutions to support the transition to net zero“. Further, UKGBC recently celebrated 100+ innovative start-up members in October 2024 and has an extensive network of solution providers and adopters, which can be convened to overcome barriers to scaling.

We are seeking partners to help fund development and deliver work to accelerate scaling of built environment sustainable solutions. We will do this through:

  • Development of a matchmaking service between solution providers and adopters
  • Researching the barriers to different types of solutions scaling in the built environment, and identifying ways these barriers can be overcome
  • Working with members with live project opportunities to encourage greater implementation of innovative solutions and share learnings

This initiative is ideal for organisations wishing to support:

Increasing the pace and scale of sustainable innovation implementation in the built environment.

Facilitating connections and collaboration across the innovation ecosystem, to encourage greater investment, piloting and implementation of innovative solutions.

Supporting the sharing of learnings from existing innovation implementation projects by collecting and disseminating guidance that will enable built environment practitioners to better understand how to apply innovative solutions on projects.

Supporting innovators access market insight to help inform solution development and increase understanding of challenges.

Partnership Length1 year (FY 2025/26)
Cost£20,000

Our Regenerative Places programme aims to work with local places to explore and demonstrate how retrofit can act as a catalyst to embed wider regenerative benefits to communities. The Programme focuses on bringing together public and private partners to co-create place-based strategies that enhance local network capacity, develop resilience against future climate-related challenges, and deliver broad “regenerative” benefits to communities.

It explores what we mean by “regenerative” and was conceived as a powerful way to co-create, with UKGBC members and local partners, a positive – regenerative – vision for the future through:

• Working with existing communities to decarbonise their homes, public spaces, and lifestyles, in ways that build resilience and (bio)diversity, while

• Exploring how local networks can develop their own capacity to respond to future challenges, empowering local people and building on local knowledge and strengths offering health and social value benefits.

Our partnership with UKGBC to support a locally-led approach to home retrofit has gone from strength to strength over the last 2 years. UKGBC’s depth of knowledge on retrofit, as well its strong and active network has really enhanced our reach. We look forward to continuing our partnership into 2024 and beyond, and working with new partners through the Regenerative Places Programme. This will enable us to deepen our understanding of how home retrofit can act as a catalyst for ensuring wider benefits to communities.”

Partnership Length1 year (FY 2026/27)
Cost£30,000

The Resilience, Resource Use & Nature programme works to embolden industry action on the climate and nature crises and drive our industry to adapt to climate change impacts and mitigate against biodiversity loss and ecosystem collapse. Taking into consideration target setting and reporting initiatives such as the TNFD and working closely with relevant government departments on key policies and recommendations there are two key areas of the programme:

Climate Resilience and Adaptation : Increasing the built environment’s resilience to physical climate hazards, expanding climate adaptation across our buildings, infrastructure and environments

Nature and Resource Use: Working towards a nature-positive built environment, embracing responsible resource use, sustainable procurement and creating green and healthy environments. By adopting circular economy principles across the industry, we can mitigate and reverse the harmful impacts the built environment has on nature from habitat loss due to extraction and processing of materials, to biodiversity loss in our town towns and cities.

Now in its fifth year, the Advancing Net Zero programme champions the acceleration of net zero buildings to 100% by 2050 through policy advocacy, learning and development and engagement activities and projects covering areas such as embodied carbon, non-domestic retrofit cost evaluation studies, building optimisation, carbon offsetting, renewable energy procurement. As well as setting frameworks for net zero and contributing to standard development (NZCBS) and complimenting target setting and reporting frameworks such as SBTi, RtZ, SECR etc.

Guided by ambitions set out within our UK Net Zero Whole Life Carbon Roadmap and supporting industry to secure the UK’s pathway to net zero and in additional to the areas stated the programme will tackle supply chain decarbonisation and more topics as needed to meet the net zero 100% target.
